We Love David!
We met David at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in NY and we have been together ever since.
From El Salvador, David is a leader in the sustainable movement
there and has coined his wonderful recycled furniture and bag collection “NeuLeather”. Trained and
working as a graphic designer in his native country, David saw a great need for sustainable products made from reusablematerials that had style and sophistication. When asking David about how he sees his work fitting with the RAREculture ethos,
David’s reply is ” RAREculture’s mission is also to help the artist to grow and expand his business. I have a vision of being able to employ the gifted Salvadorian crafts people here and make a difference to the poor communities in El Salvador by creating jobs.”
We knew immediately David was a perfect fit!

We are amazed, blown away actually, by the artists we represent in RAREculture. That’s why we have devoted ourselves to bringing their work and their stories to you….
We begin with Amanda Weil..
Amanda is by trade a glass installation artist. The mastery of her work is through her lense as a photographer and how her view of nature and scale materializes in her work. We are mezmorized by her life size imagery that finds it’s way into forms like this room divider. http://rareculture.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=30383
In this world of the obligatory blog, I’ll be the first to claim my admitted shyness at putting my pen to the page. At the end of the day though, RAREculture is about the artists and all of the amazing people, the Culture, that have devoted themselves to making this happen. The stories need to be told.
So… the quick reasons for being. My background; I’m a lifelong curator and student of what’s next, turned fashion exec. The majority of my career was in private label design and manufacturing which led me to the retail world of design. In all of those years, I traveled the world for product developement and sourcing and would come across extraordinary talent that for one reason or another could not monetize their business. Sometimes it was socioeconomic reasons, sometimes right brain/ left brain reasons, sometimes, just no interest whatsoever!
Twenty years ago, I realized that if I was gifted enough to have both right and left brained skills to build businesses in the areas I was currently doing so in, then I was uniquely qualified to help these artists do so with their incredible work as well.
When I left the retailer, I started down this path with RAREculture and met one person after another who believed just as I did. That these extraordinary artists deserved to be seen, to be heard, to have a voice and to make a living. That creating these products with such incredible craftsmanship should not be lost and that we need to foster this today. Encourage it by making sure that we create a channel for distribution and recognition. That’s RAREculture’s mission.
RAREculture has several Advisory board members and contributors who have dedicated thier time and effort to making this happen. We are launching RAREculture V2 later this summer with an addition of 20 new artists. We will keep you updated on the goings on, and thanks a lot for checking in.
We would love to hear from you!
